05/03/2006: "Spring Cleaning"

The sun has finally won out in its battle against the rain. A blaze of yellow light is pouring in through my windows, illuminating the shop and providing good reading light.

To celebrate this glorious sunshine we’ll be having our Spring Cleaning Sale on Saturday, May 6th, all day! Absolutely everything in the store, clear down to the expensive stuff in the Rare Cabinet will be 50% Off!!

Our History section is steadily growing, as is our Classics area. Just today I added a Robert Benchley first edition, “Benchley, Or Else!” His writing really is timeless, even sixty years later.

The Women’s Wheel of Life, by Elizabeth Davis.

The Angelspeake Book of Prayer and Healing, by Barbara Mark.

Bodie: Boom Town, Gold Town, by Douglas McDonald

Stars in Your Eyes, by Emilie Loring.

Too Skinny to Float, by Vicki Bohe-Thackwell. Signed copy!

The Lake: A Play in Three Acts, by Dorothy Massingham. First Edition.

The Java Tutorial: A Short Course in the Basics, by Mary Campione.

The New Yorker 1955-1965 Album: Fortieth Anniversary, by the New Yorker cartoonists.

Prisoner of My Desire, by Johanna Lindsey.

Luminescence (Poetry), by Marina Karas; Signed copy!

And much, much more!

Always remember that if you’re looking for something special, we can order your books for you, and spare you the aggravation.

We’re working to offer some new features here in the shop, but we can always use suggestions or feedback.

Close the Book on Jean-Francois Revel, an eclectic writer and journalist whose commentaries on the state of France and the world were a mainstay of French media. He was 82.

Revel wrote more than thirty books on subjects as diverse as politics and gastronomy. A bon vivant with a reputation as a gourmet, he was also well known for his staunchly conservative views and in later years became a radio personality.

Au Revoir, monsieur. You will be missed!
