June has begun with a steady increase in both temperatures and customers, as well as a new feature here at Book Oasis.
Book Oasis will have an author signing on 27 June, 2006. Mystery novelist Ann Parker will be here, debuting her new book, Iron Ties. This book is a sequel to her prior book, Silver Lies, and is set in Leadville Colorado, during the great Silver Rush.
The signing starts at 7:30 PM. Coffee and refreshments will be available. Please be sure to get here at least ten minutes early, as we’re expecting a fair-sized crowd. As a special treat, all books (except Ms. Parker’s) will be slashed by 40%. So, if you missed our last sale, now’s a good time.
Our stock continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Here’s a sampling of the recent arrivals:
USA: A Three-Volume Set, by John Dos Passos.
Air War: Vietnam, by Drew Middleton.
Metro Girl, by Janet Evanovich.
Celtic Myths and Legends, by Charles L. Squire
Empire Express: Building the First Transcontinental Railroad, by David Bain.
The Phantom Whale, by Warren F. Robinson.
The Naked Sun, by Isaac Asimov.
The Jewel of Seven Stars, by Bram Stoker.
The Ten Pleasures of Marriage, by Aphra Behn.
The Further Adventures of Lad, by Ben Payson Terhune.
The Comedies of Aristophanes – Two Volume Set, illustrated by Jean de Bosschere.
CLOSE THE BOOK ON:
· Brian Daley, noted science fiction author. Actually, Daley died four years ago, but I was unaware of it. He pioneered the writing of Star Wars books, coming out with a series of Han Solo adventures shortly after the premiere of the first movie in 1977. Daley was also the author an unusual fantasy novel entitled The Doomfarers of Coramonde, a book I still actively recommend. Although slow to start, DOC is the only book I know of which successfully marries fantasy and technologies by having an armored personnel carrier do battle with a dragon!
· Cody’s Books, a longtime favorite of booklovers, the store will close soon its Telegraph Avenue store after July 10th. Like many bookstores, Cody is facing stiff competition from superstores and from online (see my last blog).
Keep Book Oasis in mind as you get ready for your summer vacation. Remember, the airport bookshops will always gouge you, but you can load up your suitcase with us for half the price, or better!
