Legacies
Scanning the world
Flipping the pages
Identities flash
Are we all sages?
Technology's grown
Giant-size steps
Striding the world
From ocean to steppes.
Ours is the path
Of crystal ball screens
The world is our oyster
But what is the means?
We make our own path
Carve our own name
On silicon tablets
Our own claim to fame.
A thousand years past
Mantras were written
To do the same task
Our computers are bidden
But will the world know
Who has trod here?
In a thousand years hence
What will they hear?
Will bookstores exist
In the world of tomorrow?
What shape will it be?
Of smiles or of sorrow?
This question I ask
Of you who read this:
What legacy is yours
How will you be missed?

Roadwork
Construction on the new performing arts center across the street has begun. The air is alive with the sound of diggers and earth-movers, and every day brings us one step closer to a new look for First Street. What this means for me, the lone bookshop across the street from this busy beehive, is thinned traffic.
Yes, our neighborhood is going to be more beautfiul when the street has its new buildings, but in the meantime, we need your support. Small businesses the world over are facing higher competition from "super-stores" and chain businesses. If you don't want to pay high prices to monopoly businesses, do your shopping with the small stores. Remember, we're here for you.
